Your Trusted Partner for Smooth Importing into Australia

When you’re importing to Australia, whether by general air cargo, Less than a Container Load (LCL), or a Full Container Load (FCL), the most important relationship that you will ever need to establish is with your customs broker.

Your customs broker acts as your advocate, assuring your compliance with both the Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) while navigating a complex maze of rules and regulations. Without the right expertise, your shipment (in more cases than not) will encounter delays, incur additional costs, and or fail to meet critical deadlines.

At Platinum® Freight Management, we don’t just process your shipments; we partner with you to safeguard your success and mitigate your risks.

Why Platinum® Freight Management Stands Out

Many overseas suppliers make enticing promises, such as “we ship to Australia all the time” or “we can deliver directly to your premises.” They may even recommend customs brokers, but these mantras and statements are not always in your best interest.

At Platinum®, we take a different approach. We ask you to ask your overseas supplier for a detailed costing, the cost to purchase the goods, the cost to ship the goods to Australia (by air or sea), the kilograms, the cubic metres, the size of the shipping container (if applicable), and then we will provide you with a detailed costing. We will assess the numbers and offers from overseas suppliers, then advise you on what we believe is the best solution for you (at no cost, free advice).

In more situations than not, Platinum® will not recommend that you allow an overseas supplier to provide DDP or DAP unless we have been able to assess what is and what isn’t included in the proposed fees.

Some overseas suppliers are great at offering DAP INCOTERMS, and we are happy to work with those overseas suppliers to make the transaction work for you; on the other hand there are plenty of overseas suppliers who will offer you DDP INCOTERMS and we know that you will ‘sit in the dark’ wondering what is happening?, wondering where your shipment is?, wondering who is processing your shipment?, wondering when the goods will be delivered?. Needless to say, Platinum® are not a fan of DDP INCOTERMS at all. There are more disadvantages to DDP INCOTERMS than we can possibly list here.

When you purchase from overseas, there are reasons that you will purchase from overseas: (1) the stock is not available in Australia, (2) the Australian price is not competitive, or (3) your stock is unique to your business.

Whatever the circumstance, Platinum® are here to guide and protect you every step of the way.

With over 25 years of customs clearance and freight forwarding experience, Platinum® operates on four core principles:

  • We are transparent in communicating the expected fees and processes.
  • We protect you by ensuring that your shipment is compliant with the Australian import regulations.
  • We are committed to long-term partnerships.
  • When you work with Platinum®, your success is our mission.

Marry Your Customs Broker™ – The Process

At Platinum® Freight Management, we treat every shipment that you entrust to us as serious business, you have trusted us to process the customs clearance and we are committed to act for you. Here is how we deliver an unmatched service, step by step:

1. The Interest Stage – Your Initial Contact

Research our website, review our Google reviews, then reach out to Platinum® via telephone or our online contact form. Together, we will discuss your project or projects; after this initial interest, it may be that we cannot assist you, but we will still provide you with some advice, and you can always reach out to us if things do go ‘pear shape’.

2. The Engagement Stage – A Detailed Quotation

Platinum® will provide you with a clear, detailed quote for our customs clearance services. At this stage, we want you to fully understand the ‘picture’ to ensure that you are not surprised.

3. The Nuptials Stage – Authorisation and Trust

Platinum® will email you an authorisation form, requesting your signature, this is our commitment ceremony. From here, Platinum® acts as your trusted advocate for any shipments that we handle, in relation to any issues with the Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF).

In some respects, we have an open relationship. We understand that it is not feasible to have us involved with your express carrier shipments (that travel with DHL or Fedex), we encourage you to let these express carriers process the customs clearance as the customs clearance fee has already been prepaid within the freight charge. We also allow you to have shipments and clearances processed with other customs brokers, but at the end of the day, we know that no one will treat you as well as Platinum®.

4. Open Communication – Collaboration with You and Your Supplier

Platinum® will liaise with both you and your overseas supplier/s together, and we will monitor your shipment/s from the point of departure through until delivery. We wish to make sure that you have a steady flow of information. Platinum® understands that communication is the foundation of every healthy and happy relationship.

5. Continual Shipment Monitoring

Platinum® monitors your shipment from the moment that your goods have been dispatched and until you receive the goods. Platinum® is actively mitigating risks and delays on your behalf.

6. Customs Clearance Processing

Platinum® always aims to pre-clear your shipment before it arrives in Australia. Platinum® will have submitted your file ahead of time to both the Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), to ensure that your goods can be delivered promptly after arrival.

7. Delivery Options Tailored to You

When your goods arrive into Australia, Platinum® is flexible regarding collection and delivery, (1) we are happy for you to collect the goods or (2) for you to have a trusted transport company collect the goods or (3) we are happy to deliver to you; whatever is best for you is best for us. We only wish to provide you with the best solution.

8. An Ongoing Commitment

Each year, we will reaffirm our relationship by renewing the authorisation form. If you ever wish to separate, Platinum® will require you to put the separation in writing.
