The Western Australian Government intends to move all container terminals from Fremantle to Kwinana. Kwinana is approximately 23 kilometres south of Fremantle. The cost of the new container terminals at Kwinana Port will be approximately $7.2 billion. The new container terminals should be built by say late 2030.

It is expected that containerised vessels arriving at Kwinana Port in the future may very well be required to arrive at more than two container terminals which are operated by private companies. These private terminals follow strict guidelines, providing only limited free storage periods.
