Airfreight Customs Clearance Services

At Platinum®, we process airfreight customs clearances daily. We provide this service as the airline terminals generally only provide 24 hours of free storage once the cargo has been checked-in at the ground handling agents warehouse.

In some occasions it is possible for air cargo to arrive into Australia within say three hours (example: air cargo from New Zealand) whereas air cargo from Europe would be in transit for at least twenty four hours.

As overseas suppliers are generally on a different time zone to Australian importers, Platinum® works around the clock, liasing with both you and the overseas supplier to make sure that all of the necessary paperwork that is required to have the cargo processed through the Australian border is in order.

Platinum® has over twenty five years of customs clearance experience. Our licensed customs agents will collate all aspects of the shipment and then submit the customs declaration to both the Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF).

As airfreight has a short transit time to Australia, it is even more important to make sure that if your goods are eligible to claim a duty free status through a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that your supplier has prepared the necessary declarations.

Our experts always aims to pre-clear air cargo shipments before they arrive into Australia, this ensures that you will have possession of the goods sooner and also the chance of storage can be mitigated.

Ground Handling Agents – Australia

In Australia, there are three main Ground Handling Agents (GHAs) that will receive the cargo from the aircraft and then check that cargo into their warehouse. The three GHA’s are (1) Qantas Freight, (2) Dnata and (3) Menzies Aviation. Generally, once the airfreight cargo has been checked-in at the GHA’s warehouse, the GHA will only provide say 24 hours free of storage. It is important that you liase with Platinum® before the goods depart from overseas so that the cargo can be pre-cleared before arrival.

The Airfreight Import Process

Platinum® streamlines the airfreight import process, ensuring that your goods clear customs and arrive at their destination without complications. The process initially begins with an initial consultation, during which our customs clearance team will provide a tailored, itemised quote for your airfreight customs clearance.

Before your goods are airfreighted from overseas to Australia, Platinum® would have aimed to pre-clear your airfreight shipment through the border. Once your goods arrive, we liaise with the ground handling agent to see if the airfreight has been checked-in.

Finally, either Platinum® can deliver the goods to your desired location or we will provide you with instructions on where and when to collect the air cargo. As Platinum® always attempts to pre-clear your air cargo wherever possible, this allows you to receive your goods quickly.

Compliance and Customs Expertise

Understanding and adhering to the Australian border regulations is complex. At Platinum®, we simplify the compliance process by offering Australian importers expert guidance. With over 25 years of customs clearance experience dealing with both the Australian Border Force (ABF) and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), we assure that your airfreight shipment meets all of the regulatory standards while avoiding delays and penalties.

Our customs clearance compliance service streamlines the process, ensuring that you receive a fast customs clearance and peace of mind that your imports are fully aligned with the legal requirements. Door-to-Door Airfreight Services

There are express carriers like DHL and FEDEX who generally collect small packages from overseas locations and then deliver those small packages to your home or business. The benefits of relying upon express carriers like DHL and FedEx are that these carriers will collect the goods from your overseas supplier, undertake the overseas customs clearance, and transport the goods to an Australian air cargo terminal. They will then collect the goods from the terminal, customs clear the goods in Australia, and deliver them to you We refer to this service as Door to Door; you pay one price to have the goods shipped by air from point A to point B and all of the bits and pieces in between have already been accounted for in that one price.

Door-to-door shipments with express carriers like DHL and FEDEX do not include import duty and/or import GST. DHL and FEDEX will invoice you for these charges before they deliver the goods to you.

Express carriers like DHL and FEDEX are generally more suitable for smaller packages transported overseas to Australia. Larger shipments would generally not travel with DHL or FEDEX (due to costs), larger air cargo shipments would usually be transported as general air cargo.

General Air Cargo Solutions

When your air cargo is larger in weight and size, it is generally not feasible to send the air cargo with say DHL and FEDEX, the air cargo would be more suited to travel as general air cargo with general airlines like Emirates, Qatar, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines.

General air cargo is generally a cheaper option as the rate that you pay to transport your goods from overseas to Australia does not include such things as Australian air cargo terminal charges, Australian customs clearance and delivery to your address.

Whether your airfreight cargo is arriving into Cairns in the north, Hobart in the South, Perth in the west or Sydney in the east, Platinum® customs clears airfreight cargo at all Australian international airports.

Platinum® caters to specialised airfreight shipping needs with tailored solutions. Platinum® quite frequently customs clears airfreight cargo on weekends and also customs clears temperature-controlled goods (such as chocolates and pharmaceuticals).
