Leading Australian Customs clearance agency Platinum® Freight Management will reach further into the international market this month with the appointment of Kumar Karuppusamy to lead the development of new Indian Region business services from the company’s Sydney office.

It is the second ethnic channel that Platinum® Freight has developed in the past 12 months after the success of the Chinese Business channel launched in July last year.

“India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh are high traffic areas for importers and exporters and, as such, an important opportunity for business growth. Specialising in the Indian Region, the business is another point of difference that can deliver tangible value to our clients,” said CEO Peter McRae.

The new division launches at a time when Australia and India reach their ninth round of negotiations over a bilateral Free Trade Agreement which, once ratified, will strengthen already growing trade relations between the regions. According to DFAT, two-way trade in goods and services between India and Australia has grown in value from $6.8 billion in FY2003-04 to $14.8 billion in FY2013-14.

To mark the launch, Platinum® Freight will offer extended phone consultations for SMEs based in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia this month and next.

Leading the channel as Client Service Manager, India Region, Kumar Karuppusamy will develop deeper relationships with the brokerage’s existing regional business portfolio, grow a stronger client base of Australian-based businesses importing and exporting to the region and to reach into the subcontinent itself to target international businesses trading with Australia.

Kumar brings to the role client-side experience as an importer of goods from India as well as trade qualifications in customs broking and freight forwarding. Born in Southern India, he is fluent in Tamil, offering clients clearer communication in-language.

Platinum® Freight Management is unique in the Australian Market already, international, independent and privately owned with a footprint in six Australian states and territories as well as Auckland.

Handling all customs clearance processes for clients, from independents to large national businesses, its services include logistics and transport, quarantine inspections, risk assessment, compliance, and auditing to government regulators’ standards.

Platinum® Freight offers seven-day-service with extended hours, to meet the needs of a global economy. It delivers the most accurate advice and the fastest response time in market.
