Platinum® Freight recently took on a new customer who was importing biscuits by air freight from the U.A.E.
We processed the first two shipments without incidence and then on the third occasion we were advised by the Australian Customs and Border Protections Service [ACBPS] that the 177 kilograms of “biscuits” were in fact 177 kilograms of molasses tobacco.
Once we were notified; we advised the customer that we would no longer act on their behalf.
The tax being evaded by this customer was in excess of $ 89,917 AUD.
